Rocky Raccoon

Posted by HelloThis cute little guy and his three siblings have been the root of all of my more recent problems (Sadly, I can't quite blame them for drinking away my first few years at university...). Rocky (he was too cute not to name) is one of four raccoon kits that wildlife services pulled out of a chimney in my apartment. With them (and their mother) goes a legacy of pain that has been plaguing my house for a few months! FLEAS! For those of you who are not aware of the amount of annoyance that these tiny critters (my new found nemesis!) can cause; let me explain. Of all the horrible things that could happen to you ie: Death, death of a loved one, natural disasters, and being injured... having fleas in your otherwise AWESOME apartment, comes in a close 5th. For months I have been trying to get our landlord to believe that there were even raccoons in the wall at all. When Wildlife services finally showed up they had to break open the chimney from the roof, lasso the raccoons and pull them out; all because the mother was really stubborn and refused to pull them out of the chimney herself. I sound bitter, I know... but the truth is, now that they are gone I feel a bit bad. I feel like a horrible landlord who has just kicked a single mother out onto the streets with her 5 week old quadruplets. I can't believe it's only been a few hours since they lumbered away and I'm already comparing myself to a slum lord! I just can't win.

Oh my gosh, he is too cute! I didn't realize that baby racoons looked like that! Don't feel bad--look at it this way: you weren't kicking the racoons out, you were kicking the fleas out! BTW, have you heard of the recent salmanilla (sp?) outbreak here in the U.S. Little critters have been carrying it around...yuck!

I can't believe that you have been exploiting raccoons! I think that calling yourself a Slum Lord is being a little easy on yourself! Don't you?
